Remittances reach $18.3 Billion in November, up 7.3% on year

MANILA, Philippines — Remittances from overseas Filipinos amounted to $18.317 billion in the first 11 months of 2011, roughly 7.3 percent up year-on-year, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Monday said.

The end-November remittances gave BSP officials confidence to say that fund transfers will exceed growth expectations this year or more than seven percent over 2010 total remittances of $18.763 billion. The original forecast for remittances was that it will reach $20.1 billion for 2011.

Based on BSP data, for the January-November period, sea-based workers’ remittances increased by 13.8 percent to $3.913 billion while remittances from land-based workers went up by 5.65 percent to $14.4 billion.
